Organic synthesis: development new methods for stereoselective coupling of carbohydrate units.

Carbohydrate chemistry: target-orientated oligosaccharides synthesis and synthesis of glycolipids.

Synthesis and design of glycoconjugates for study of biological properties.

 

Research interests:

The research in Mong lab aims on the development of practically simple synthetic methods for the synthesis of biologically potent but commercially non-available monosaccharaides, oligosaccharides, neoglycoconjugates, cell wall components of pathogenic bacteria, and natural glycosylated products via a combination of organocatalytic synthesis, solvent participation in glycosylation, nucleophile-modulated glycosylation approach. Major research effort devotes to four topics:

  1. Discovery of new methods and chemistry for synthesis of natural glycoconjugates, inner core oligosaccharides of lipopolysaccharides, lipid A with various of fatty acid chains, O-antigens of LPS for immunological studies.
  2. Preparation of anionic oligosaccharides including PI-88, hyaluronic acid, sulfated LacNAc oligomers to investigate the binding properties for protein receptors in human cell-lines.
  3. Preparation of glycodendrimers and glyconanoparticles for development of bacteria sensing devices and study the carbohydrate-protein interactions.
  4. Chemical synthesis of natural phenylethanoid glucosides and their structural analogues for study of anti-proliferation properties on human cancer cell-lines.
